Overview
Health Professions Education leaders at UBC direct the education of the next generation of care providers across the province. The Educators Leadership Program (ELP) aims to support these current and future education leaders in the Faculty of Medicine, in three ways:
- Provide evidence-based and practical support of their role as a leader.
- Provide foundational knowledge of the scholarship of teaching and learning.
- Create a cohort of education leaders that will provide both peer-to-peer support and a community of practice.
With the ELP, we are building a community of Health Professions Educators with the ability to examine their own leadership and educational practices through a scholarly evidence-based lens. As there are over 8,000 HPE learners in the UBC system, effective educational leadership of the programs that support these learners is essential. The ultimate goal of the ELP is to create a foundation for a growing teaching community of excellence in the health professions that will infuse these programs and their students with an ethic of evidence-based effective leadership and teaching that will support innovative excellence over time.
Over the last four years from 2018 – 2022, the Educators Leadership Program has successfully graduated over 100 participants from the four distributed medical sites, Postgrad, and other allied health professions in the Faculty of Medicine (i.e. Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Audiology, Midwifery, Medical Genetics, and Medical Laboratory Science).
