UBC Presenters Accepted to Present at the 2022 Canadian Conference on Medical Education

Once again, UBC has reason to be very proud of our extensive participation and contributions to the 2022 Canadian Conference on Medical Education held in Calgary (and online) from April 23 – 26, 2022.

On the scientific program, 88 members of the UBC community were represented a total of 123 times on 45 peer reviewed abstracts. This year’s UBC offerings include 32 oral presentations, 8 moderated posters, and 5 workshops. For a full listing of presentations by UBC members, click here.

Current CHES trainees and graduated Clinical Educator Fellows were well represented among UBC presenters, including: current CHES Postdoctoral Fellow, Neera Jain; current CHES PhD students, Katherine Wisener, Helen Hsu, and Brett Schrewe; and CEF alumni, Cary Cuncic, Edwin Betinol, Gaby Yang, Alasdair Nazerali-Maitland, Azaria Marthyman, Heather Buckley, Marilyn Champagne, and Samantha Stasiuk. A special note of congratulations to UBC medical students Melissa Kong and Kevin Zhang, whose highly creative, polished, and professional virtual presentation is a must see. And a special thanks to Rose Hatala for her role on this year’s Abstract Selection Committee.

The national art exhibit, “White Coat, Warm Art”, continued to flourish under the vision and able guidance of co-founder and coordinator Carol Ann Courneya. This year it received particular prominence as a digital show displayed prior to each plenary. All 66 of this year’s submissions (along with the artists’ statements) can be found here and the 30 jury selected submissions that were shown as a rolling digital show throughout the conference can be seen here.

Members of the UBC community also were acknowledged with a variety of honours. CHES offers congratulations to Andrea Townson, Kyla Hildebrand, and Maggie Watt who were the UBC recipients of this year’s CAME Certificate of Merit Awards and to Glenn Regehr who was awarded the 2022 AFMC President’s Award for Exemplary National Leadership in Academic Medicine.

Of course, this represents just a small part of the many important contributions that members of the UBC faculty and staff made to various activities and committee meetings that round out the CCME. So, congratulations and thanks to all the members of the UBC community and partner organizations who participated in the conference this year.
